The Polis-Latchi Museum of Sea and Culture welcomed 4,517 visitors during its first year of operation, reflecting public interest in the area’s new cultural and environmental education facilities.
Since opening, the museum has hosted thousands of families, pupils, organised groups and visitors from Cyprus and abroad.
Maritime history and culture
The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous described the museum’s first anniversary as an important milestone for the new cultural venue.
Dedicated to the maritime history and culture of Cyprus and the wider Mediterranean, with particular emphasis on the Akamas region, the museum seeks to connect history and culture with modern technology.
Its collections and themed exhibits explore how the sea has shaped the island’s historical and cultural development.
Interactive visitor experience
The exhibition is spread across four rooms and includes interactive games, historical maps, photographs, videos and virtual and augmented reality applications.
Combining art, science and technology, the museum offers visitors an immersive journey through more than 30 centuries of history, highlighting Cyprus’ enduring relationship with the sea and the role of maritime tradition in the development of its culture.
Educational visits
The museum is suitable for school trips, educational visits and organised tours.
Pupils and other groups can explore its exhibitions, participate in interactive activities and learn about maritime history through a more direct and engaging experience.
According to the municipality’s first-year review, visits by families and pupils have been an important part of the museum’s work as it seeks to become a modern centre for culture and learning in the region.
Marking the anniversary, the museum’s management thanked the public for its trust and support, noting that visitors have contributed to efforts to establish the venue as a cultural and educational landmark.
