The European Union remains fully committed to supporting the UN-led process and the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to advance a settlement of the Cyprus issue, European Commission Executive Vice-President for Cohesion and Reforms and EU Special Representative for Cyprus Raffaele Fitto said on Friday.
In a post on X following separate meetings with President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman, Fitto said it was "a great honour and responsibility" to serve as the European Commission's Special Representative for Cyprus.
"This is my first visit to the island in this capacity, and I am here above all to listen," he said.
"The European Union remains fully committed to supporting the process under the auspices of the United Nations and the efforts of the UN Secretary-General," Fitto added.
He said he looked forward to returning to Cyprus soon to continue dialogue with all stakeholders.
