Outgoing Deputy Minister to the President for European Affairs Marilena Raouna has stressed the need to preserve the expertise, institutional structures, trusted relationships and strong political coordination developed during Cyprus' Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
In a written statement marking the end of her term, Raouna said the report of activities she submitted to President Nikos Christodoulides reflects the legacy of Cyprus' EU Presidency, with the aim of strengthening the Republic of Cyprus' effective participation in European decision-making processes over the long term.
Engagement with other states
Raouna said the report covers the period from 17 January 2024 to 31 July 2026, the date on which her term ended, and records the work carried out from the initial preparation stage through to the completion of Cyprus' EU Presidency.
The report covers both organisational and administrative preparations as well as political work, including the institutional planning and coordination of the presidency, the development of its programme and strategic priorities, and Cyprus' political representation within EU institutions.
It also outlines engagement with EU member states, candidate countries and third countries, as well as the management of key European files and the results achieved during the six-month presidency.
'National mission'
Raouna described the preparation and conduct of Cyprus' EU Presidency as "a national mission of particular institutional and political importance".
She said that, under the leadership of President Christodoulides, a collective effort had been made to deliver meaningful results and strengthen Cyprus' role within the European Union.
As her term came to an end, Raouna expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Deputy Minister to the President for European Affairs.
She thanked President Christodoulides, members of the Council of Ministers, the Cyprus EU Presidency Secretariat, government ministries, state services, Cyprus' Permanent Representation to the EU and all those who contributed to the successful completion of the presidency.
