The trial of a 37-year-old father charged in connection with the death of his three-year-old son is set to begin today at the Paphos District Court.
The defendant faces a charge of causing death by a reckless, careless or dangerous act.
The case is scheduled to be heard at 10am, with the accused having remained at liberty under strict bail conditions pending trial.
Released under strict conditions
The court ordered the defendant to:
- Deposit a €20,000 cash guarantee;
- Be placed on the stop list;
- Surrender all travel documents;
- Report once a week to Paphos Central Police Station;
- Refrain from crossing through checkpoints; and
- Provide police with his full residential address.
After complying with the conditions, he was released until the start of the proceedings.
Attorney-General authorised prosecution
The prosecution was initiated following instructions from the Attorney-General, who reviewed the evidence gathered during the police investigation.
According to reports, alcohol was detected in the accused's blood, a factor expected to be examined during the trial.
