Early‑morning raids in North Rhine–Westphalia

Police in the German state of North Rhine–Westphalia carried out early‑morning raids today in eight cities, targeting suspected far‑right extremists, according to security sources.

The operation focuses on 10 suspects believed to be linked to an organisation known as Young and Strong. All those under investigation are German nationals.

One of the suspects had already been placed in pre‑trial detention in connection with a separate case.

Increase in neo‑Nazi violence

Violence involving young neo‑Nazis has increased in Germany since 2024, including attacks on events linked to the LGBTQI community.

Authorities have warned of a growing pattern involving younger individuals radicalised through online platforms before engaging in real‑world activities.

Security services flag emerging threats

Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office reported in mid‑2025 that it had observed the emergence of new far‑right organisations led by young people, many of which initially formed online.

These groups are now appearing more frequently in public through rallies, disruptive actions and criminal offences.

Focus on multiple groups

Security officials estimate that Young and Strong is the largest of these organisations, with around 500 members.

Investigators are also focusing on three additional groups, one of which is believed to have more than 100 members.
