Police Intensify Checks Over Firecrackers, Molotov Cocktails Seized

Patrols across Cyprus respond to fires and confiscate materials linked to Easter bonfire preparations.

Police have intensified patrols and inspections across all districts of Cyprus as part of operations aimed at preventing the use of firecrackers, the lighting of Easter bonfires and incidents of youth delinquency ahead of the Easter period.

The operations continued throughout the day and overnight, with police patrols responding to several incidents involving fires in open areas.

Incendiary devices found in Limassol

In Limassol district, police officers discovered three Molotov cocktail-type incendiary devices in an open area near a church during the night. The items were seized for further examination.

Police also responded to incidents of fires being lit in open areas, with members of the Fire Service called to extinguish the flames. Wood intended for Easter bonfires was found in five waste bins and removed with the assistance of Limassol Municipality crews.

Firecracker incidents in Nicosia

In Nicosia district, police responded to a number of incidents involving the use of firecrackers and the lighting of fires. Fire Service personnel were also called to extinguish the fires.

Wood discovered in two separate locations, believed to have been collected for Easter bonfires, was confiscated and will be handed over to local authorities.

Increased patrols across districts

Police officers in the districts of Famagusta, Larnaca and Paphos, as well as in the Morphou area, carried out intensified patrols and inspections, without any serious incidents being reported.

Police said that operations will continue with an increased presence and targeted actions across all districts, aiming to prevent dangerous behaviour and strengthen public safety. Authorities also called on the public to act responsibly and cooperate with the relevant services.
