UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, considers that further progress is possible on the Cyprus issue if the two sides remain committed, UN sources told CNA.

Asked about the way forward, in view of the fact that the Turkish Cypriot community has now new leadership, the UN sources noted that the Secretary-General encourages “the sides to seize upon this new dynamic” and reiterates that “if the two sides remain committed, further progress is possible”.

The UN sources also said that the Secretary-General “looks forward” to working with the new leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, including building on the progress achieved during the two informal meetings he hosted in March and July this year.
