DISY President Annita Demetriou has declined to elaborate on the widely discussed dinner involving former party leader Averof Neofytou, saying she wants to protect the level of political dialogue and the party she leads.
Asked about the dinner by a journalist following the National Council meeting, Demetriou noted that the press conference concerned the Cyprus issue and said she wanted to safeguard the institution of the National Council.
‘Everything in its own time’
“Allow me to protect the level of political dialogue and the party I lead. Everything in its own time. My job is to protect my party through a democratic process, and that is what I will do,” Demetriou said.
She added that DISY members would be the ones called upon to decide through the party procedures provided for.
“Our members will choose, they will have their say. Everything else is unnecessary, to say the least,” she said.
DISY prepares to select 2028 candidate
Her comments come amid intensifying internal developments within DISY over the selection of the party’s candidate for the 2028 presidential election.
Demetriou has already announced that she will seek the party’s nomination, with the final decision due to be made by DISY members through the internal process.
