Heavy rain is falling on the Astromeritis–Evrychou road, affecting traffic and prompting police to urge drivers to take extra care. Police said motorists should travel at low speed and keep a safe distance from vehicles ahead because of the conditions on the road network. "Drivers are asked to be particularly careful, to drive at low speed and to keep a safe distance from the vehicles in front of them," police said.
Yellow warning until 6pm
A yellow warning for severe thunderstorms remains in force until 6pm, mainly affecting the northern, mountainous and inland areas of the island. Hail is expected to fall during the storms, while winds will be variable and strengthen. Rainfall intensity is expected to exceed 35 millimetres per hour in places.
