The Famagusta District Court has issued convictions for breaches of Safety and Health at Work legislation linked to a fatal workplace accident, following a criminal prosecution brought by the Department of Labour Inspection.
According to an announcement from the Department of Labour Inspection, the court imposed a total fine of €8,500 on the company Farm Koumis Kamilari & Sons Ltd, which is active, among other things, in cattle farming.
The case concerned a fatal workplace accident in which an employee was fatally injured after being attacked by a bull while in the farm's enclosure. The court found there had been a failure to apply a safe working method during the milking of the cows, as well as a failure to apply an appropriate risk management system at the workplace.
The court also sentenced an individual to four months' imprisonment, suspended for three years, for breaches of the same legislation.
The Department of Labour Inspection said the violations had put both workers and other people present at the workplace at risk.
