The recusal applies only to this specific aspect of the investigation; he remains on the team for the panel's other findings.

Professor emeritus of criminal law Christos Mylonopoulos, one of the five members of the independent panel of criminal investigators appointed by the Council of Ministers on Thursday to examine the findings of the "Mafia State" report, is expected to be recused from the aspect of the investigation concerning the Focus case.

According to reports, his recusal will be limited to this specific matter and will not affect his participation in the investigation of the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority's other findings.

The issue arose from Mylonopoulos's previous professional relationship with shipowner Michalis Zolotas, whom he had represented as defence counsel during the proceedings for his extradition from Greece to Cyprus.

It is noted that in the Focus case, the person under scrutiny is Nicos Anastasiades, not Michalis Zolotas.
