Videogate Probe Nears End as New Evidence Emerges

The months-long investigations into the high-profile Videogate case – which points to an alleged organised mechanism of corruption within the Presidential Palace – are nearing completion.

Criminal investigator Andreas Paschalides, appointed by the Attorney General on 13 January 2026 to oversee the inquiry, met yesterday with the leadership of the Legal Service to brief them on the progress of the investigation.

According to Politis sources, it was noted during the meeting that new evidence has emerged and is currently under examination. Depending on the findings, this evidence may overturn the conclusions reached so far, under which no criminal offences appeared to be established against close associates of President Christodoulides who play a central role in the controversial video.

The evaluation of this new material will determine whether the investigator will request an extension to submit his findings. Otherwise, he is expected to present his conclusions to the Attorney General on the 16th of the month.

Black Cube

The revelation that the video, posted on 8 January 2026 on the platform X by an account named “Emily Thompson,” was linked to the Israeli private intelligence firm Black Cube gave the case an international dimension.

Politis reported on 10 April 2026 that the company was behind the video. Black Cube, founded in 2011 by veterans of Israeli intelligence units, later confirmed its involvement – an unusual move for a company that typically operates discreetly.

Rather than denying any role, the company publicly stated it was “proud” of its involvement in uncovering alleged corruption cases linked to Cyfield in Cyprus.

Questions and suspicions

Black Cube’s stance raises significant questions. Why would a firm that usually operates behind the scenes publicly acknowledge its involvement in such a sensitive operation? Under what conditions was the full audiovisual material handed over to Cypriot authorities?

And crucially, why does the company appear to attribute the alleged corruption solely to Cyfield, while excluding from focus the two close associates of President Christodoulides captured in the video?

Another key question concerns who in Cyprus has the financial capacity and means to secure the services of one of the world’s most powerful private intelligence firms to target Cyfield.

According to Politis sources, investigations have not yet answered the central question of the case: who is behind the video.

Was Mossad involved?

Attorney General Giorgos Savvides, who will receive the final report and decide on further actions, is expected to clarify how police investigators and the criminal investigator came into contact with Black Cube, especially given the reported involvement of Cyprus’ intelligence service (KYP).

Did the Mossad unit based in Cyprus act as an intermediary? Was there any consultation at a high political level with the Israeli government?

There must also be clear answers on how authorities ensured that Black Cube provided the full audiovisual material obtained through the covert recordings, and whether there was any selective editing, omission or manipulation that could implicate specific individuals while shielding others.
