The main front of the wildfire that began in Boeotia and spread into Western Attica is now concentrated around Kandili and Agia Skepi near Megara, according to the Fire Service.
It is the only area where the flames still form a continuous front, while new hotspots continue to emerge.
Evacuation orders issued
Emergency alerts were sent through 112, ordering residents in Kandili, Ano Vlychada and Agios Konstantinos to move towards Nea Peramos.
People in the Megara Industrial Area and Papa Perivoli were instructed to evacuate towards Megara.
Three active fronts remain
The fire remains active in three areas: the main front near Kandili, a less intense front towards Psatha, and a third northeast of Psatha towards Vilia, Kryo Pigadi, Agios Nektarios and Agia Paraskevi.
Conditions on the northeastern front have improved slightly, with no continuous line of fire. However, numerous large hotspots continue to burn across the mountain, keeping emergency services on full alert.
Firefighters, forest commandos, volunteers and local authority crews are using firebreaks to protect residential areas. Specialised teams are also entering burning areas to tackle hotspots at their source.
A total of 23 aircraft, including 12 helicopters and 11 aeroplanes, are conducting water drops. Weaker winds have allowed aerial operations to resume at full capacity.
Investigation into fatal helicopter collision
An investigation is continuing into the collision between two helicopters near Psatha on Sunday, which killed two people.
The inquiry was assigned by prosecutors to the Hellenic Police and is being handled by the unit commonly referred to as the “Greek FBI”.
The Fire Service’s Directorate for Arson Crime Investigation is assisting the inquiry. Specialist officers inspected both the crash site and the location where the second helicopter landed, collecting evidence for the investigation.
