The Cyprus Third Age Observatory has demanded immediate state action after a vulnerable citizen lay dead for days without anyone noticing her absence.

The discovery of an elderly woman dead inside her residence, where she remained unnoticed for several days, has caused widespread public concern across the country. The tragic incident highlights the growing issue of extreme loneliness and social isolation among older citizens, as well as the apparent lack of adequate support networks.

The Cyprus Third Age Observatory issued a stern warning following the incident, stating that care for older people must extend beyond basic survival to ensure human dignity. The organisation stressed that society cannot allow its elderly population to become invisible or to die in complete isolation and neglect.

Calls for systematic change

The observatory has urged both the state and local authorities to implement immediate protective measures. The non governmental organisation called for local councils to strengthen support networks within neighbourhoods so that isolated individuals can be identified early.

A key demand is the immediate mapping of the population aged 65 and over across the country to locate the most vulnerable citizens. The group argues that regular social visits and structured psychological support must be integrated into municipal care routines to ensure no elderly person is left forgotten.
