1912 Intercommunal unrest. Clashes between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots culminate on 27 May, when the Kataklysmos festival in Limassol turns violent, following earlier incidents that left teachers and students seriously injured.

1928 Birth of Ivi Meleagrou, prose writer.
1960 Military coup in Turkey. The government of Adnan Menderes is overthrown and a new administration is formed under General Gürsel.
1967 Alexandros Panagoulis arrives secretly in Cyprus. Panagoulis evades the Greek junta’s security services and travels illegally to Cyprus using a Cypriot student passport.
1973 Lyssi Gymnasium. The new school building is officially inaugurated, having been completed earlier. After 1974, the gymnasium was converted into a military camp by the Turkish army.
1977 Death of Kostas E. Liasidis, founder of the Liasidios Commercial Lyceum in Paphos.
2001 Parliamentary elections. Eight parties and six independent candidates contest the elections under proportional representation. AKEL wins 20 seats and DISY 19.
2016 Election of Andreas Matsas as SEK General Secretary. Andreas Matsas is elected General Secretary of SEK, succeeding Nikos Moyseos.
2016 Death of Eirena Ioannidou Adamidou, prose writer.
2020 No new Covid-19 cases recorded. For the first time, no new cases are recorded in Cyprus, paving the way for the easing of restrictive measures.
