Employees of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) will proceed with a 24-hour strike on April 23, unions representing the workforce announced on Friday.
The decision follows what unions describe as a failure by relevant authorities to address issues repeatedly raised by employees in the energy sector, despite earlier warning strikes held on February 27 and March 18.
In a letter addressed to the EAC’s Director-General, the unions said the planned industrial action will run from midnight on April 22 until midnight on April 23. It will also involve 50% of shift staff at the Dhekelia Power Station.
The unions involved in the action include EPOPAI, SIDIKEK, SEPAIK, SYVAIK and the Free Pancyprian Organisation of EAC Personnel.
They indicated that the escalation to a full-day strike was deemed necessary after no substantive steps were taken to resolve the outstanding concerns.
