The Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department is investigating a case of attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, assault causing grievous bodily harm, and carrying a knife. The 19-year-old victim of the attempted murder remains in hospital in serious condition.

The incident occurred at around 10pm on Sunday, 12 April, at an entertainment venue in Larnaca. Police are searching for a 24-year-old man in connection with the case.

According to the head of Larnaca CID, Giorgos Charalambous, “the suspect and the victim were both present and socialising inside the same nightclub in a seaside area of Larnaca”.

He said the two men were not known to each other. “At some point, apparently due to the crowd, they bumped into each other, which led to an argument. The victim was then assaulted and struck in the face,” Charalambous said.

He added that “as the victim turned to return to his table, he felt a burning sensation on the back right side of his body and realised that he was bleeding”.

Charalambous said friends took the victim to hospital, where doctors found a blind stab wound measuring three centimetres to the right of the kidney area, along with a ruptured kidney caused by a sharp-edged instrument. “The victim remains in hospital for treatment and although his condition is considered serious, he is out of danger,” he said.

Officers from the Larnaca CID examined the scene and collected evidence. Further inquiries led to the identification of the suspect, against whom police issued an arrest warrant. He remains at large.

Larnaca CID continues the investigation.
