David Hunter, 78, from Northumberland in the United Kingdom, had been convicted of the manslaughter of his 74-year-old wife and had served a prison sentence of 19 months.

He had told the court that he suffocated his wife following her persistent wishes, as she was suffering from advanced blood cancer and was in a very serious condition, according to British media reports.

According to the BBC, Hunter had recently been living in a care home, and ultimately passed away while being treated in a hospital in Cyprus after an infection.

His daughter, Lesley Cawthorne, told the BBC: “He was a good, kind man and the best father, who is greatly missed by family and friends.”
