Woman Arrested at Airport Over Theft From Deceased Woman’s Account

Police say suspect withdrew funds shortly after the account holder’s death.

Police have arrested a 41-year-old woman in connection with an ongoing investigation into the theft of money from the bank account of a woman who had died.

In a statement, police said officers arrested the suspect in the early hours of Tuesday at Larnaca airport. She is being held on the basis of a court-issued arrest warrant that had been pending against her.

Police said they arrested the 41-year-old upon her arrival in Cyprus to facilitate investigations into the suspected theft of a sum of money from the deceased woman’s account.

According to information under investigation, the suspect allegedly withdrew a total of €17,500 from the account between July 21-25, 2022.

The Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department (CID) continues inquiries into the case.
