The alert involving a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv was ultimately reported to have been a false alarm, after the aircraft transmitted emergency signals while flying over Saudi Arabia.
According to the Times of Israel, the aircraft subsequently landed at Tabuk airport in Saudi Arabia, after the incident prompted a response from Israeli security authorities.
Pilot dispute reportedly triggered alert
According to Israeli security sources cited by the Times of Israel, the incident that led to the transmission of code 7500, which signals unlawful interference, as well as a general emergency signal, was reportedly linked to a dispute between the aircraft’s pilots.
No further details have so far been provided about the reported disagreement.
Israeli military assessed situation
The Times of Israel also reported that Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir conducted a situation assessment with senior military officers following the alert.
Those involved included Israeli Air Force Commander Major General Omer Tishler, Operations Directorate chief Major General Itzik Cohen and Military Intelligence Directorate chief Major General Shlomi Binder.
No further information has been released about the circumstances surrounding the incident or the condition of the passengers and crew.
