A Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv triggered an alert after transmitting emergency signals while flying over Saudi Arabia.
According to the Times of Israel, the aircraft first transmitted code 7700, used internationally to indicate a general emergency, before later transmitting code 7500, associated with hijacking or other unlawful interference with an aircraft.
Aircraft turns back over Saudi Arabia
Flight tracking data showed that the aircraft turned back while over Saudi Arabia.
Security sources reported that Israeli fighter jets were scrambled towards the area following the alert.
Hebrew-language media also reported that Israel’s prime minister and defence minister held emergency consultations over the incident.
