Former Democratic Rally (DISY) President Averof Neophytou formally submitted the support forms for his bid for the party’s nomination for the 2028 presidential elections on Thursday afternoon. The forms carry more than 3,000 signatures.

He delivered them in person at the party’s headquarters on Pindarou Street in Nicosia, a day after announcing his intention to run.
Submission at party headquarters
Following the submission, Mr Neophytou made his first statements to journalists at the entrance of the party’s headquarters, as his press office had announced earlier in the day.

Message of unity
The central message of his candidacy is a call to stand united for a better future, for a just society and for a reunited and safe Cyprus.
Priorities set out in his announcement
In his announcement on Wednesday, Mr Neophytou asked for the support of the party’s members and supporters. He emphasised tackling the high cost of living and the housing problem, efforts to solve the Cyprus problem, and the need for a change in governance.
He also referred to the unity of the Democratic Rally and to the need for a new social contract with citizens.
