Officers held 28,000 suspected fake condoms of a well-known brand, set to be seized and destroyed in the coming days.

Customs officers have detained 28,000 condoms that appear to be counterfeits of a well-known brand, after inspecting a container that arrived by sea from Greece. The owner of the company involved appears to have admitted that the products are fakes. The goods are expected to be seized and destroyed in the coming days.

How the container was selected

On 22 October 2026, following a risk analysis of intra-EU sea cargo from Greece, customs officers selected a container carrying consolidated goods for multiple consignees for X-ray and physical inspection.

Products found to infringe intellectual property rights

During the inspection, officers found and detained 28,000 condoms. Based on an initial assessment and on the documents and invoices submitted, the products appear to infringe the intellectual property rights of a very well-known brand.

Seizure and next steps

The company owner appears to have admitted that the condoms are counterfeit. The seizure procedure will go ahead in the coming days, after which the products will be destroyed.

The case is being investigated further by Limassol Customs.

Customs warning on counterfeit products

The Customs Department once again warned the public about the risks of using counterfeit products, which are not made with the quality materials and processes used by manufacturers of genuine goods.

In this case, the department said, the use of counterfeit condoms could lead to consequences ranging from unwanted pregnancies to more serious outcomes, such as the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.
