Turkish Cypriot “foreign minister” Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu said on Saturday that Turkish troops were central to the security and future of Turkish Cypriots.

His comments followed talks in the occupied north with General Metin Tokel, commander of Turkey’s Land Forces.

Turkish forces described as a guarantee

According to Turkish Cypriot media, Ertuğruloğlu claimed that the Turkish Armed Forces guaranteed peace and security in Cyprus.

“The presence of the Turkish army on the island is the strongest guarantee of the peace, existence, security and future of the Turkish Cypriot people,” he said.

He also highlighted the role of the Turkish Armed Forces in the region, saying the visit by the Land Forces leadership had given them considerable strength and confidence.
