Police will conduct checks across Cyprus on Sunday as the hunting season begins, focusing on enforcing hunting laws and providing assistance where needed. Hunters are being urged to act responsibly and exercise particular caution because of the heightened wildfire risk.
Nationwide enforcement
Police said officers, particularly members of the Anti-Poaching Unit, will carry out checks to ensure compliance with the law.
The operation will target poaching offences and hunting in prohibited areas, while officers will also provide assistance where necessary.
Licences and fire safety
Hunters must carry their hunting licence and firearm possession licence for inspection and wear high-visibility clothing as required by law.
They are also urged to respect other hunters, private property and the natural environment, and to take particular care due to the increased risk of fire.
Emergency contacts
In an emergency, hunters should call 112. Anyone who sees smoke or fire should immediately contact 1407 or 112.
