The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved the composition of its parliamentary committees, completing one of the key steps needed for the new legislature to begin its regular work.
The plenary convened at 10.00 to approve the committee line-up and to elect the members of the special parliamentary ethics committee. The number of standing committees remains unchanged at 16, with 12 MPs serving on each committee.
Under the arrangement approved by the Selection Committee, Democratic Rally and AKEL have secured five committee chairmanships each, while the Democratic Party and ELAM have received three each.
