The Cyprus Association of Beauticians is calling on the public to make sure, before receiving any beauty treatment, that the institute holds the required operating licence and that its services are provided by licensed professionals.
In a statement titled "Licensed Beauty Institutes and Protecting the Public," the Association stressed the need to safeguard the lawful practice of the profession and protect citizens.
According to the Association, under the Registration of Beauticians Law 40(I)/1999, as amended, the body responsible for registering beauticians, issuing licences to practise, and granting operating licences to beauty institutes is the Beauticians' Registration Council.
The Association noted that the law states no beauty institute may operate without the required licence, and that institutes must be run by licensed beauticians.
At the same time, it pointed out that services provided at beauty institutes must remain within the professional scope defined by law, and must not extend into procedures that fall under other legally regulated professions.
Particular reference was made to invasive medical procedures, which the Association clarified fall outside a beautician's professional scope and may not be carried out by a licensed beautician acting in that capacity.
The Association described the existence of premises offering beauty services without the required operating licence as a serious issue, both in terms of enforcing the law and protecting the public and legally licensed professionals.
It added that complaints it receives concerning the possible unlicensed operation of institutes, the provision of services outside the lawful scope of the profession, or other possible breaches of the law, are forwarded to the Beauticians' Registration Council for investigation and appropriate action, in line with the established procedures.
In closing, the Cyprus Association of Beauticians said it would continue to support the lawful practice of the profession, professional ethics and, above all, public safety and protection.
