Natasa Ioannou has announced her candidacy for the co-presidency of Volt Cyprus, ahead of the party's internal elections on 10 October, just days after party spokesman Pieros Karoullas and deputy co-president Lysia Dimitriou announced their own joint candidacy. The pair opened the race for the party's new leadership on 13 September.
Ioannou, who stood as a Volt candidate in the Kyrenia constituency in May's parliamentary elections, chose to tie the announcement of her candidacy to the party's election result. Volt won 11,488 votes in the parliamentary elections, a 3.1% share, without securing a seat in parliament.
"We are not two, we are not three, we are 11,488 people," she wrote in her announcement, noting that these voters chose "to give their vote to something different."
She argued that this trust represents, in her words, a "political responsibility" for her, rather than simply an election result or the end of a campaign period.
