Severe weather conditions are affecting Larnaca district, causing renewed disruption for residents.
Heavy rainfall has flooded basements, while streets have turned into rivers, with Larnaca residents saying this is not a one-off problem but a longstanding issue for which, they claim, the relevant authorities have failed to provide solutions.
The problem is especially severe in the Aradippou area and in Kalo Chorio, with the conditions expected to ease after 5pm this afternoon.
What the weekend weather holds
Tomorrow, Saturday, the weather will start out mostly clear, though clouds developing after midday may bring isolated rain or a storm, mainly in the mountains but also in parts of the interior. Winds will blow south-westerly to north-westerly, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming locally moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort, later in the day. The sea will generally be slight to moderate. Temperatures will rise to around 33 degrees inland, around 29 on the western coast, around 31 on the rest of the coast, and around 24 degrees in the higher mountains.
On Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, the weather will start out mostly clear, though increasing cloud developing after midday may bring isolated rain, mainly in the mountains.
Temperatures will rise slightly on Sunday, climbing above average for this time of year. On Monday and Tuesday, no significant change is expected.
