Cyprus is set for another hot day on Saturday, with inland temperatures expected to reach 40°C.
A yellow warning for extreme heat, issued by the Department of Meteorology on Friday, will remain in effect from 1pm until 4pm.
Saturday’s forecast
Seasonal low pressure is affecting the region.
The weather will be mainly clear, although locally increased low cloud and patches of mist or fog are expected initially inland and in southern and eastern areas.
Cloud developing during the afternoon may bring an isolated shower over the mountains.
Winds will mainly blow from the southwest to northwest, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually strengthening to moderate or strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slight, becoming locally moderate in the afternoon.
Temperatures will rise to 40°C inland, around 33°C along the western and northern coasts, approximately 36°C on the remaining coasts and 30°C in the higher mountains.
Overnight conditions
The weather will remain mainly clear, although increased low cloud is expected at times in western areas.
Patches of mist or fog may form during the early morning hours, mainly in the southeast and inland.
Winds will gradually become downslope and light at 3 Beaufort, while the sea will be slight. Temperatures will fall to around 24°C inland and along the coasts and 20°C in the higher mountains.
Outlook through Tuesday
Mainly clear conditions are forecast for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, with temporarily increased cloud developing during the afternoon, particularly over the mountains.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly through Tuesday and will remain slightly above seasonal averages.
