Efforts between Cyprus and Israel to reach an agreement on the shared natural gas field located between the Cypriot Aphrodite field and Israel’s Isai field will continue in the first half of October.
Speaking to CNA, Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Michalis Damianos said that meetings would take place during the first half of October, with the aim of finalising the agreement before the end of the month.
“There will be meetings during the first half of October with the aim of closing the agreement before the end of October,” he said.
The discussions are being held at a technical level, with the participation of technical experts and legal advisers from both countries, as well as the companies managing the two fields.
The difference between the two countries stems from the fact that the natural gas reservoir of the offshore block containing Aphrodite geologically overlaps with Isai in Israel’s exclusive economic zone. Aphrodite is located in Block 12 of Cyprus’ EEZ and is operated by the US company Chevron.
