Almost three in 10 Cypriots could not afford a week's holiday in 2025, according to figures from Eurostat.
Across the EU, 27.5% of the population aged 16 and over said they could not afford one week of annual holiday away from home last year, a rise of 0.5 percentage points on 2024 but still 7.7 percentage points below the 2015 level. In Cyprus, the figure was 27.6%, marginally above the EU average.
Romania and Greece lead the gap
The highest shares of people unable to afford a week's holiday were recorded in Romania (61.4%) and Greece (46.6%), followed by Bulgaria and Hungary, both at 39.1%. By contrast, the lowest shares were in Luxembourg (10.6%), Sweden (12.4%) and the Netherlands (12.8%).
