Public spaces, walking trails, viewpoints and community facilities are being upgraded throughout the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous under a grant scheme aimed at revitalising rural, mountainous and remote areas. The Deputy Ministry of Tourism approved €548,332.26 in funding against initial requests totalling €592,838.60.
The programme covers 12 municipal districts: Agia Marina Chrysochous, Gialia, Nea Dimmata, Neo Chorio, Droushia, Terra, Kritou Tera, Chrysochou, Argaka, Pelathousa, Pomos and Polis Chrysochous.
What the programme includes
Funding was provided under the Grant Scheme for the Revitalisation of Rural, Mountainous and Remote Areas through the Creation of Authentic Experiences to Enrich and Upgrade the Tourism Product.
According to the municipality, the programme is intended to improve residents’ daily lives while enhancing the experience offered to visitors.
The projects include improvements to public spaces, tree planting and landscaping, trail upgrades and the creation or enhancement of viewpoints. They also cover construction work, signage, street furniture, lighting, playground improvements and digital infrastructure.
The interventions aim to highlight the individual character of each district by drawing on its natural and cultural assets and creating a more organised and functional environment.

The approved funding for each municipal district is as follows:
Agia Marina Chrysochous: Initial request €56,274.93; approved grant €54,146.35.
Gialia: Initial request €50,296.27; approved grant €36,202.55.
Nea Dimmata: Initial request €64,454.66; approved grant €58,484.65.
Neo Chorio: Initial request €67,924.70; approved grant €65,000.
Droushia: Initial request €37,217.84; approved grant €36,819.20.
Terra: Initial request €35,159.57; approved grant €35,159.54.
Kritou Tera: Initial request €21,140; approved grant €20,140.
Chrysochou: Initial request €53,933.16; approved grant €49,916.33.
Argaka: Initial request €63,913.14; approved grant €62,485.07.
Pelathousa: Initial request €40,628.28; approved grant €38,828.27.
Pomos: Initial request €73,617.25; approved grant €64,871.50.
Polis Chrysochous: Initial request €28,278.80; approved grant €26,278.80.
The initial requests totalled €592,838.60, while the approved grants amounted to €548,332.26.
Neo Chorio received the largest approved allocation, at €65,000, followed by Pomos with €64,871.50 and Argaka with €62,485.07.
Supporting local tourism
The municipality said the projects seek to combine improvements to the appearance of local communities with the promotion of their natural and cultural environment.
Upgraded infrastructure and points of interest are also intended to strengthen the area’s appeal as a destination offering authentic experiences beyond the traditional tourism model.
The municipality thanked the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for its financial support and cooperation in carrying out projects across the wider area.
