Former Mossad director Yossi Cohen has said he visited Iran’s Fordow uranium enrichment facility several times, without revealing when the visits took place.
Speaking at the Galilee Forum in Safed, Cohen said the visits were intended to help him understand the site. He also welcomed the US strikes that damaged Fordow during the 12-day war between Israel and Iran in June 2025.
Cohen describes repeated visits
“I toured the Fordow nuclear facility many times to understand the site,” Cohen was quoted as saying by Hebrew-language media.
He did not provide further details about the timing or circumstances of the visits.
“The bombing of it by the Americans was the fulfilment of all my dreams,” he added.
Damage to Iran’s nuclear facilities
Fordow, along with facilities in Isfahan and Natanz, sustained serious damage from US strikes during the June 2025 conflict.
Reports said 440 kilograms of highly enriched uranium stored at the facilities had been buried. Israel, however, believes Iran moved some of the material to a location known as “Pickaxe Mountain” after the war.
Disagreement over uranium enrichment
Cohen also said that “uranium enriched to 60% is still a long way from becoming a bomb”.
His assessment appears to differ from that of experts including David Albright, who argue that uranium enriched to 60% could be further enriched to weapons-grade levels within weeks or possibly even days.
