The redeveloped Old GSP site is entering a new phase after Nicosia Municipal Council approved the award of a contract for the commercial operation of five units within the multifunctional park in the heart of the capital.
Although several major business groups and companies had initially expressed interest, only one bid was ultimately submitted, by CATERCOM LTD PHC, a member of PHC Franchised Restaurants Public Ltd.
The council approved the award on 30 July, paving the way for the first commercial outlets to open at the transformed site.
Under the agreement, the company will manage and operate five commercial units, some of which are expected to be subleased to other businesses.
Bringing all-day activity
A key objective of Nicosia Municipality is for the Old GSP site to evolve beyond a venue used primarily for organised events and become a destination with permanent daily activity.
Officials expect the future cafés, restaurants, bars and retail outlet to attract visitors from morning until late evening, strengthening links between the site and Nicosia's commercial and administrative centre.
Provided no appeals are filed with the Tenders Review Authority, the contract is expected to be signed in the coming period.
Interior fit-out works are projected to begin in September.
The units will be delivered as cold shell spaces, meaning they will be completed structurally but without final internal fit-outs, allowing individual operators to design and equip premises according to their business requirements and brand identity.
The commercial spaces are expected to open approximately four to six months after the contract is signed.
Citizen Service Centre planned for 2027
According to information obtained by Politis, the municipality is also aiming to establish a new Citizen Service Centre (KEP) at the site during 2027, following the closure of the facility on Makariou Avenue.
The reopening of a Citizen Service Centre in the city centre has been a long-standing request of residents and employees working in downtown Nicosia.
With development works progressing rapidly, tenders for the project are expected to be issued in the coming months, most likely in September following the summer holiday period.
Under current planning, the facility is expected to operate from the amphitheatre square area and open during the following year.
