Anti-Corruption Authority to Announce Findings on ‘Mafia State’ Book by 15 June

The Anti-Corruption Authority is expected to issue its announcement on the investigation into the book by Makarios Drousiotis Mafia State by 15 June, according to the Commissioner for Transparency, Harris Poyiadjis.

Speaking to CNA, Poyiadjis said the Authority had now set a final deadline for the publication of its findings, following months of examination of an extensive body of material.

In a statement issued on 5 May, the Authority had said that, due to the sheer volume of evidence, it was not possible to determine precisely when the announcement would be released, though it would be before the end of June 2026. Asked for an update, Pogiatzis said the announcement would be issued “at the latest by 15 June”.

Responding to a separate question on whether announcements were expected on other cases, he said that “all other cases have been suspended until we finish with this one”.

As previously announced, the final report prepared by the four Inspection Officers was submitted to the Authority in electronic form within the deadline that had been set, on 30 April 2026.

During the investigation, a total of 214 sessions or hearings were held for the purpose of obtaining testimony or evidence. A total of 150 witnesses gave evidence, 41 legal entities and government departments submitted documents, and 793 exhibits were filed.

The report, including its appendices, runs to approximately 3,000 pages.

The Authority has said that, before issuing any announcement, it must follow the procedures set out in law, namely the study of the report, its evaluation, and a decision by the Authority on its content. To that end, a working group has been set up within the Authority.

Until the process is completed, all proceedings are conducted under conditions of full confidentiality, as provided for by legislation.
