Turkey is updating its military readiness and planning concerning Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean, Turkish Defence Minister Yaşar Güler has said in a written response to a parliamentary question.
Mr Güler was responding to an inquiry submitted by Hasan Öztürkmen, a lawmaker from the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) representing Gaziantep, who requested information on Ankara's security policy regarding Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Military readiness under review
In his response, Mr Güler referred to what he described as the "sensitive balances" on the island and said Ankara was adjusting its military planning accordingly.
"By exercising particular care in maintaining the sensitive balances on the island, we are meticulously updating our level of military readiness to ensure the security of Turkey and the 'Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus'," he said.
The Turkish Cypriot entity in northern Cyprus is recognised only by Ankara.
Mr Güler's remarks indicate that Turkey continues to review and adapt its military planning for Cyprus in response to developments in the region.
Focus on the Eastern Mediterranean
The parliamentary question also addressed recent geopolitical developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Mr Güler said Ankara was closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the relevant state institutions.
According to the minister, ongoing assessments are being carried out on all issues affecting Türkiye's national security, while measures continue to be taken in line with developments and operational requirements.
Monitoring developments in Syria
Mr Güler also referred to Israeli activities in southern Syria, saying these were being closely monitored by Turkey.
According to the minister, whenever developments are identified that could affect the country's security, the necessary measures are taken without delay.
