President in Rome for Talks With Mattarella and Cultural Exhibition Opening

Christodoulides meets Italian President and ENI chief during official visit focused on partnership and energy cooperation.

President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides is in Rome for an official visit on 26 and 27 February, where he will meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella and inaugurate an archaeological exhibition highlighting the shared cultural identity of Cyprus and Italy.

The visit follows talks held on Thursday with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, during which the two leaders announced their intention to begin discussions on drafting a joint partnership document addressing common priorities.

Meeting at the Quirinale Palace

According to the Presidency, President Christodoulides will be received with official honours at the Quirinale Palace by President Mattarella.

The two leaders will hold a meeting followed by a working lunch hosted by the Italian President in honour of President Christodoulides and the Cypriot delegation. Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantinos Kombos will also participate.

Joint cultural exhibition in Rome

Later in the afternoon, the two Presidents will inaugurate the archaeological exhibition titled “Cyprus and Italy, A Common Cultural Identity Since the Beginning of History” at the Museo Nazionale di Castel Sant’Angelo.

The exhibition highlights historical and cultural links between the two countries.

Meeting with ENI chief executive

During his stay in Rome, President Christodoulides will also hold a working meeting with Claudio Descalzi, Chief Executive Officer of ENI.

The Italian energy company is active in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone.
