Toy Story 5, the Disney and Pixar animated sequel, has become the highest-grossing film of 2026 after officially passing $1 billion at the global box office. The film has taken $1.022 billion worldwide, overtaking The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael to claim the year's top spot.

The animated feature has brought in $448 million in the domestic market and $573 million internationally, according to the latest figures. It reached the billion-dollar mark in its sixth weekend of release.

Directed by Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton, the fifth instalment follows Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and Jessie (Joan Cusack) as their owner, Bonnie, becomes absorbed in a new smart tablet for children called Lilypad.

Toy Story 5 premiered in mid-June with a $160 million opening weekend and has maintained strong momentum throughout the summer, helped by positive word of mouth and an original soundtrack contribution from Taylor Swift titled "I Knew It, I Knew You."
