Dozens of protesters gathered outside the House of Representatives on Monday, calling on MPs to support stronger protections for borrowers as legislation on foreclosures heads to a vote.
Demonstrators urged lawmakers to “let humanity speak”, highlighting the growing pressure on families at risk of losing their homes.
Several protesters shared personal stories of financial hardship, warning they face eviction in the coming days and have no alternative housing options, with rents remaining high.
Speakers at the protest accused banks and credit-acquiring companies of unfair practices, arguing that loans sold at low prices are still being pursued in full from borrowers.
Political figures addressing the crowd said the vote would determine whether Parliament stands with society or with financial institutions, while also pointing to behind-the-scenes discussions ahead of the plenary session.
Some protesters later entered the chamber to observe the plenary proceedings, while others remained outside as the debate began.
