Health Ministry Urges Blood Donations As Supplies Come Under Pressure

Demand for blood and blood products remains high across Cyprus, while donor turnout continues to decline due to seasonal illnesses, prompting an urgent appeal to healthy volunteers.

The Ministry of Health has issued an urgent appeal to voluntary blood donors and members of the public who are in good health to visit their nearest blood donation centres, warning that blood supplies remain under strain as demand stays high and donor attendance falls.

High Demand, Fewer Donors

In a statement, the Ministry said that blood needs remain elevated, while donor turnout has decreased, mainly due to seasonal viral infections.

It stressed that many patients continue to rely on blood and blood products, including red blood cells, plasma and platelets, for ongoing treatments, surgical procedures and other medical needs.

For this reason, the Ministry is calling on regular donors and all eligible individuals to dedicate a small amount of time to donate blood and help maintain adequate reserves.
