UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham is set to meet Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Downing Street on Wednesday, reaffirming Britain's support for Ukraine at a time of growing international political pressure on the Ukrainian president.
According to the report, Burnham will promise to speed up deliveries of surface-to-air missiles intended to help Ukraine defend against Russian attacks. He is also expected to urge international partners to intensify sanctions on Russia in an effort to increase pressure on President Vladimir Putin.
Support for Zelenskyy
The meeting comes after criticism of Zelenskyy by US President Donald Trump, who recently said it was time for Ukraine to "get a new president".
The British government has sought to demonstrate continued backing for Ukraine amid the controversy.
Opposition to US-Russia diesel deal
The UK government has also rejected a reported US-Russia agreement on Russian diesel supplies, arguing that economic pressure on Moscow should be maintained.
London has called on its allies to continue sanctions and other measures aimed at constraining Russia's ability to sustain its war effort.
"We stand with you"
Ahead of the meeting, Burnham issued a message of support to Ukrainians.
"My message to the Ukrainian people could not be clearer: we stand with you for as long as it takes."
The talks are expected to focus on military assistance, sanctions policy and broader international support for Ukraine.
