Natalie Harp has become one of the most discreet yet controversial figures in US President Donald Trump’s inner circle. Since joining his team in 2022, the former conservative television presenter has gained unusually direct access to the president and built a reputation for her speed, loyalty and near-constant presence.
The SUV incident
According to sources cited by CNN, Harp climbed into the boot of an SUV in October 2023 so that she would not be left behind when Trump’s motorcade departed Trump Tower.
The incident occurred shortly before Trump travelled to court in New York. No seat was available for Harp, prompting tensions in the lobby after she insisted that Trump had personally asked her to accompany him. Rather than stay behind, she found an unconventional way to travel with the motorcade.
From television to Trump’s inner circle
Harp, 35, previously worked as a presenter for a conservative television network. Before joining Trump’s team in 2022, she had publicly said that he had “saved her life”.
Her role at his side has since expanded. She relays messages, coordinates contacts, types posts for Truth Social and keeps a steady supply of articles and reports portraying Trump positively.
Her constant printing earned her the nickname “human printer”.
Concerns over her access
Harp’s influence has prompted concern within the White House. Some aides have reportedly been frustrated by her level of access to the president, while she is said to have maintained that she answers only to Trump.
Despite those concerns, Trump appears to value her speed and dedication. Harp was also among the small number of people who accompanied him on an undisclosed trip last summer, once again highlighting the closeness of her role.
When Democratic US Senator Jon Ossoff referred publicly to Harp, his remarks prompted a strong response from the White House. Her supporters describe her as exceptionally hardworking and loyal, while people in Trump’s circle have characterised their relationship as almost that of a father and daughter.
Scrutiny over Truth Social access
Harp’s name also came under scrutiny after a controversial racist video involving Barack and Michelle Obama was posted on Truth Social.
As she was among the limited number of aides with access to Trump’s account, some within the White House considered whether she may have known about the post. No public responsibility was attributed to Harp.
Despite the controversy surrounding her role, Harp remains close to Trump and has become one of the most consistent figures in his personal circle.
