Users of the Digital Citizen app can now keep track of when their documents expire and arrange renewals in good time, under a new feature introduced on Monday, 26 October 2026. Automatic notifications will be sent to users’ phones ahead of each expiry date, the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy announced, according to CNA.
How the alerts work
Users will receive notifications:
- 30 days before a stored document expires
- 15 days before it expires
- on the day it expires
If a user has already been issued a new document, they will be taken directly to the process of adding it to the app when they open Digital Citizen after receiving the notification, the announcement states.
Expired documents
Documents that have expired will remain visible in the app until they are replaced or deleted.
New features on the way
The app continues to add new features. The addition of residence documents for foreign nationals is expected to be announced in the coming days.
Tickets for sports matches are also scheduled to be added before the end of the year, complementing the Fan Card, which is already available in the app.
Validity of digital documents
Digital documents created through Digital Citizen have the same validity as their physical equivalents, but they are not international travel documents.
The aim of the app is to make everyday transactions easier by giving citizens instant access to their documents on their phones.
Reporting problems
The Deputy Ministry encourages citizens to use the app and to report any difficulties in having their digital documents accepted by emailing info@dmrid.gov.cy.
The app is available free of charge for iOS and Android devices through the App Store and Google Play.
