Three more 'officials' have been removed from their positions following the dismissal of Erhan Arıklı as “transport minister” in the Turkish Cypriot administration.
A decree removed deputy “transport minister” Enver Öztürk, “ministry director” Mustafa Abar and “ports department director” Emsal Emirzantaoulloğulları from their posts.
According to reports from the north, Murat Şalel has been appointed to replace Öztürk. No replacements have yet been announced for the other two positions.
First Filo Jet victim buried
Meanwhile, the funeral of İsmail Kurt, whose body was the first to be recovered from the sunken Filo Jet catamaran, was held at midday in the presence of Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman.
Family members, relatives and friends attended the funeral.
“Prime Minister” Ünal Üstel, president of the National Unity Party, and “deputy prime minister” Fikri Ataoğlu, president of the Democratic Party, were also present and offered their condolences to the victim's family.
The Filo Jet catamaran sank in a maritime tragedy, with the recovery of victims and the investigation into the circumstances of the incident continuing.
Bar Association offers free legal support
The Turkish Cypriot Bar Association has announced that it will provide free legal assistance to victims of the maritime tragedy and their families who request it.
The association said a list of volunteer lawyers would be compiled for this purpose and subsequently made available by the Bar Association.
The latest developments come as authorities continue to deal with the aftermath of the Filo Jet sinking, while changes within the transport administration have also been announced.
