Over 25,000 Ukrainians Under Temporary Protection in Cyprus

Eurstat reported an increase in figures since April.

The number of beneficiaries of temporary protection from Ukraine in Cyprus stood at 25,490 on 31 May 2026, according to data published on Friday by Eurostat.

Their number increased compared with the end of April 2026, when 24,880 people under temporary protection were recorded in Cyprus. At the same time, Cyprus recorded one of the highest rates of temporary protection beneficiaries in the EU relative to its population, with 25.9 people per thousand inhabitants.

According to Eurostat, higher rates per thousand inhabitants were recorded in Slovakia, at 26.8, and in Poland, at 26.5, while the EU average stood at 9.7 per thousand inhabitants.

At European Union level, a total of 4.38 million non-EU citizens who fled Ukraine had temporary protection status on 31 May 2026. Compared with the end of April, the number of people from Ukraine under temporary protection increased by 7,795, or 0.2%.

The EU countries hosting the highest number of beneficiaries of temporary protection from Ukraine were Germany, with 1,283,270 people, accounting for 29.3% of the EU total, Poland, with 967,505 people, or 22.1%, and Spain, with 267,400 people, or 6.1%.
