ALMA leader Odysseas Michaelides has begun contacts with other party leaders, putting forward a specific proposal on the presidency of the House of Representatives.
According to information obtained by politis.com.cy, Michaelides met today with DIKO president Nicolas Papadopoulos and AKEL general secretary Stefanos Stefanou to exchange views on the House presidency and the parliamentary committees.
The same sources said Michaelides listened to the positions and initial views of DIKO and AKEL, while also putting several scenarios on the table. Among them was the name of Nicosia MP Irene Charalambidou, presented as a possible compromise that could facilitate cooperation between DIKO and AKEL.
A party source told Politis that ALMA is putting forward a number of ideas and scenarios, including Charalambidou’s name. The source added that Stefanos Stefanou’s name is also among the options being discussed.
However, the source clarified that ALMA will not support the candidacy of either Nicolas Papadopoulos or Christiana Erotokritou, making clear that any figure from a party participating in government is not an option for the movement.
