Cyprus’ Pharmaceutical Services have warned of serious health risks linked to products promoted for weight loss, anti-ageing, muscle development and general wellbeing.
These include peptides, hormone analogues and other active substances that may be distributed illegally through websites and social media, as well as gyms, beauty salons, hairdressers and other unauthorised premises.
Injectable products raise particular concern
Authorities are particularly concerned about products administered through injections or intravenously, as these bypass the body’s natural protective mechanisms.
If they have not been manufactured, stored and distributed according to the required standards, they may contain unknown substances or incorrect dosages. They could also cause contamination, toxicity, infections and serious adverse reactions.
‘Natural’ does not mean safe
The Pharmaceutical Services stressed that descriptions such as “natural”, “safe”, “free from side effects” or “for research use only” do not make a product legal or harmless.
Members of the public are urged to purchase medicines exclusively from licensed pharmacies and to seek advice from a doctor or pharmacist beforehand.
The illegal distribution of pharmaceutical products is a violation of the law and may result in penalties.
