Two fire outbreaks were reported on Monday morning along the road linking the Sea Caves area to the Cape Greco Environmental Information Centre, prompting an immediate response from members of the public and emergency services.
According to a statement by Forestry Department spokesperson Glafkos Kyriakou, authorities were notified at 10:37am of two separate fire outbreaks in the area.
Fires extinguished quickly
The two fires were put out by passing members of the public before they had an opportunity to spread.
The Forestry Department thanked those who intervened, praising their swift response in preventing a potentially more serious incident.
Emergency services deployed
Forestry Department personnel and members of the Fire Service subsequently attended the scene and secured both locations.
Authorities remain on alert and continue to monitor the area.
Cause under investigation
Investigations into the causes of the two fires are under way.
According to Kyriakou, the possibility that the fires were started deliberately has not been ruled out.
The Forestry Department said inquiries are continuing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incidents.
