Police Issue 520 Mobile Phone Citations in One Week

A further 30 offences involved drivers handling other objects during a nationwide road safety campaign.

 

Cyprus Police recorded 550 traffic offences during a nationwide awareness and enforcement campaign conducted between 24 and 30 August 2026.

The operation focused on motorists using mobile phones or handling other objects while driving.

Mobile phone use dominates offences

Of the 550 citations issued:

  • 520 involved mobile phone use while driving
  • 30 involved the use of another object while driving

Police checks to continue

Police warned that using a mobile phone or handling other objects can distract drivers and significantly increase the risk of road collisions.

Traffic checks will continue across Cyprus, the force said.
